Rule 8. Step outside your comfort zone.

...even if it is a small step.

I am 100% not the sort of person to step outside of my comfort zone. I like my comfort zone because..well..it's comfy! I know what I like and what I don't like, I know what makes me scared and what doesn't. I know what makes me feel happy and what doesn't. So I have never really thought otherwise. However if we all stayed inside our comfort zones or what we thought was our comfort zone, I don't think we would really get to experience life at it's fullest in my opinion.

Now let's be realistic, this doesn't mean trying to convince or force yourself to go skydiving because it is usually considered to be "outside of your comfort zone". It could simply mean to you, doing something small in reality that you were afraid to do and haven't done, even though you really wanted to.

For me, going outside my comfort zone meant eating dairy after not having it for 4 years. Without going into too much detail, a few years ago I diagnosed myself as dairy intolerant as a result of a side effect from a strong medication. This basically meant that every time I had dairy after this medication, I felt sick. Now let me be clear, before this incident I had no stomach problems at all and did not have a problem with milk. Anyway, that's beside the point, the point is I didn't even try dairy at all for 4 years. I was that scared. Hell, I even know so many people that are actually dairy intolerant that ate more dairy than I did in those 4 years lol.

I lived my life in fear of getting sick from milk, that I decided to not eat it, be near it or just even taste it. This meant going out to restaurants was hard, going to my friends and families houses were a pain, even buying snacks which I love became so much effort because I had to read the ingredients on everything at the supermarket. All I wanted was to eat chocolate, ice-cream, cheese and other diary goodness!

So one day with some professional help I decided to try it. Just taste it and see what happens. I pushed myself to step outside the comfort of the foods that I thought weren't going to make me sick, to try basically a food I have avoided for so many years....and you wouldn't believe what happened.....ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!

It was honestly one of the best days of my life. Not because I ate chocolate and it was DELICIOUS but because I literally grew some balls and just did it! I stepped outside of my comfort zone and my life turned right around!

Even though some of you reading this might be like "Okay wow she has problems, if this is exciting to her", I know that this small event was the first time I stepped outside of my comfort zone and honestly since then, it has made me be more confident to do other things that push my out of my comfort zone too!

Think right now about the first time you went outside of you comfort zone. Something that made you scared but you did it anyway and it was the best thing for you! Even if you haven't done something that pushed you, maybe this is the sign you need to try something! Sky diving or bungee jumping isn't necessarily the only thing that can push you out of your comfort zone. It can honestly be something so small that changes you in a very big way! Be proud of what you have achieved and the challenges you have overcome!
